Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that, having understood Ukraine's defensive strategy, the enemy changed its offensive tactics, which means the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) also need to adjust their actions, according to Politeka.

He shared this on his channel.

As the expert notes, at the end of 2023, Russian forces seized the strategic initiative and have remained on the strategic offensive since then. Therefore, the AFU, according to all plans, are maintaining a strategic defense, the goal of which is to withstand the enemy's offensive—using either positional or mobile defense—inflict as many losses as possible, and prepare for counterattacks and a counteroffensive.

"The tactics of combat have now changed—positional warfare has reached a deadlock, so the enemy has shifted its approach and is now fighting in a completely different way. Previously, combat operations were carried out by brigades, battalions, companies, platoons, and squads: mechanized groups would concentrate, strike, advance into the tactical zone, then break into operational space, flank from behind, encircle, form pockets, and so on. Now, along the entire line of contact, combat operations look different—it’s just two assault pairs," says Oleh Starikov.

In other words, he explains, these assault troops on motorcycles try to break through, our soldiers chase them with FPV drones, and those who aren't intercepted manage to slip through and begin to fortify their positions. So, the expert concludes, modern warfare has become “four soldiers versus four soldiers”—something never seen before in military history.

"Our command made a strategic decision to turn all cities into fortress cities. And the enemy lost a large number of personnel in the early stages—in Avdiivka and so on. After that, they rethought their approach and realized that traditional combat manuals could be thrown away, and they changed their way of conducting warfare. Using heavy weapons, including FABs, they destroy everything in sight. If there's a building, they strike it—it gets destroyed. There's no way to hide, and our forces are forced to withdraw," concludes Oleh Starikov.
